Commercial Licensing

Retflo is free for worker cooperatives, democratic organizations, individuals, and anyone else structured around mutual aid and worker ownership. If that's you, use it. No paperwork required beyond the RCCL attestation.

Who needs a commercial license

If your organization is investor-owned, publicly traded, or one in which profit flows primarily to people who don't do the work, you need a commercial license to use Retflo. This includes corporations, private equity-backed entities, and similar structures, regardless of your industry, size, or stated purpose.

The question is structure, not intentions. The license draws a clear line so the Work remains a commons and not a resource to be extracted.

What a commercial license gets you

A commercial license grants your organization the right to use Retflo, including the argument graph, API, content, and any Derivative Works, under negotiated terms outside the conditions of the RCCL. Terms vary by use case and are negotiated directly.

Pricing

There is no fixed rate. Commercial licenses are negotiated case by case.

To be direct: if you represent a large institution with significant resources, expect the conversation to reflect that. Revenue from commercial licenses funds cooperative infrastructure, community centers, and the continued open development of this project. That's what the money is for.

How to inquire

Send an email to licensing@retflo.org with:

  • Your organization's name and a brief description of the intended use
  • The scale of use (number of users, integration type, etc.)
  • Whether you are inquiring on behalf of yourself or your organization

You'll receive a response within a reasonable timeframe. Negotiations are conducted in good faith.

For AI companies and model developers

Training a machine learning model on Retflo's content constitutes use under the RCCL. If your organization is a Prohibited Entity and you have trained or intend to train on this Work, you need a commercial license. This applies regardless of whether you distribute the model or serve it privately.

Reach out. The conversation is open.
